El Salvador & Honduras
Last Vlog of my Central America Sabbatical: El Salvador & Honduras!
This was one of my favorite trips of my life. Almost a month by myself traveling through 5 countries and soaking up as much as possible. I highly recommend solo travel to anyone who’s considering it. My soul has been thoroughly searched, and I’m excited for what the future has in store.
I’ve practiced Spanish every day in May, and it’s honestly made a huge difference. By the end of the trip, I found myself being able to have full-on conversations with people without having to think about it too much. I don’t want to lose my Spanish now that I’m back in the states, so I’m going to continue practicing every day to maintain my proficiency. I’m also going to start a Spanish club for anyone who’s interested in practicing every week over delicious Latin American cuisine. Message me if you’re in!
Already planning my next trip :)
El Salvador
El Salvador - The hidden gem of Central America. Some of the friendliest people I met on this trip. I spent a few nights in El Tunco, a beach town consisting of just 2 streets. The most popular activities there are surfing, reading, eating Pupusas, watching the sunset, and RELAXING.
I also hiked up to Puerta del Diablo for some incredible views over the valley below. I’ll be honest - I was not overly excited to visit El Salvador, but it exceeded ALL of my expectations. 10/10 recommend
Honduras
Roatan, Honduras was my last stop in Central America. I am SO glad that I went on this trip. I almost skipped over several of these countries because of safety concerns, but I felt completely safe throughout the whole trip. There are travel warnings for most Latin American countries, which discourages a ton of Americans from visiting them. But honestly, getting into a car in America is dangerous. Eating Mcdonald's is dangerous.
There are so many people in these countries that rely on tourism for their livelihood, and there are countless wonderful places to visit. After traveling to 15 of the 21 countries in Central and South America, I’ve found that staying in the popular backpacking/tourist areas, not flaunting your possessions, and a little bit of common sense goes a long way.
There is so much to love about these countries - the people, the food, the beaches, the architecture, the affordable travel. I have a special place in my heart for Latin American culture, and I can’t wait to come back. Until next time!
Scuba Diving
Scuba diving was one of the craziest things I’ve ever experienced. Being 60 feet under the water felt like being on a different planet. 10/10 would scuba again!
