Lessons I’ve Learned

~People are good~
When traveling alone, it can get lonely. All it takes to fix that is a simple “hello” to anyone you meet. Most of the time, they’ll be friendly, and you may learn something new from a short conversation. And sometimes, you might meet friends who you’ll keep in contact with for the rest of your life.

~Food makes everything better~
Even when I was completely exhausted and frustrated (for various reasons that go along with traveling), a good meal solved all my problems. Each country has their specialties; make it your goal to try as many as possible.

~If you’re tired enough, you can literally sleep anywhere~
Traveling is exhausting. I slept on trains, boats, taxis, buses, beaches, park benches, train stations, hostel lobbies, concentration camps (still feel bad about this one), classrooms, and everywhere in between.

~Everyone is different, and that’s okay~
Every single person has a different story. Different culture, background, opinions, emotions, preferences, etc. Learning to accept these differences in others has made me a better person. Even if you think you have nothing in common with someone, give them a chance. They’ll probably surprise you.

~Try everything once~
Conquer your fears. Even if something scares you, do it. You’ll be glad that you did.

~I don’t need my iPhone every second of everyday~
Yeah, technology is great. But spending a few hours without it is great too. Some of the best days of this trip were when my iPhone completely stopped working. There’s something freeing about disconnecting from a devise you rely on so much.

~Find what you love, and do it~
I’ve always known that I liked traveling, but now I’m in love with it. Seeing new places, experiencing new cultures, and meeting new people is the most exciting and challenging thing I’ve ever done, and I never want to stop. I’m already planning my next trip. I’ve most definitely been bit by the travel bug.

~Don’t settle for anything less than your wildest dream-come-true~
Make a bucket list, and don’t stop until you check every item off that list. And then add more. Never stop dreaming.
