Burning 1,000+ Calories Every Day for a Month
Burning 1,000+ “move” calories every day in May was definitely one of the more difficult challenges I’ve done. It forced me to move my body for at least 2 hours/day. I enjoy having an active lifestyle, but there were a handful of days in May when I still had 200-300 calories to burn at the end of the day, so I had to go on a late-night walk or jog when I REALLY didn’t want to. But that IS after all the point of these monthly challenges - to get uncomfortable, embrace hard things, and create discipline.
My June Challenge is one I’ve been thinking about for a while - Athletic Greens. It seems like every podcast I listen to and every influencer I follow promote this product. Athletic Greens is “the foundation of daily health” - a daily supplement that promotes gut health, supports immunity, boosts energy, and helps recovery. Has anyone else tried it? I’m excited to see if I notice any difference. Happy June!
Iron Man Training Update
I have officially begun a 16-week intensive training program for Iron Man Washington at the end of September. I'm training 6 days/week and hitting each of the 3 disciplines (running, biking, swimming) 3 times each per week. It's hard work, but I'm really trying to enjoy the journey. Check out my new ride!
MURPH
Earlier this week on Memorial Day, I completed MURPH - A workout in honor of those who have fallen in service. It was incredibly hard, but remembering the why helped me push through the pain. I am still sore 3 days later.
1 mile run
100 pull-ups
200 push-ups
300 squats
1 mile run
40 minutes, 50 seconds
2 Years of DuoLingo + 500 Days of 10,000 Steps
I celebrated 2 big milestones in May. The first was hitting 2 years of practicing Spanish on DuoLingo every day. I’m far from fluent, but I’m definitely much more proficient than when I started. And the second milestone was my 500th day in a row hitting 10,000 steps.
I believe that creating daily habits like practicing Spanish, hitting 10,000 steps, and journaling has been one of the best ways I’ve found to create discipline in other areas of my life. Do I want to practice Spanish everyday? Absolutely not. But it’s a commitment that I made to myself, and I plan to keep that commitment. If you’re looking to form habits but don’t know where to start, 2 books that I 100% recommend are Atomic Habits and The Miracle Morning.
Congrats Eli & Tiff!
HUGE Congrats to Eli and Tiff for buying their first home!! Their homebuying journey was a bit of a rollercoaster, but their patience and persistence paid off. Enjoy your beautiful new home!
Theory Spring Retreat
Last week, we had our inaugural Theory Spring Retreat on Anderson Island. The day consisted of a scavenger hunt on the way to the ferry, Survivor-style games and team-building activities, a discussion around the 6 Working Geniuses strengths assessment, a delicious lunch with fun island drinks, and lots of volleyball. I knew it would be a fun day, but it completely exceeded my expectations. Learned so much about our team and had no idea how competitive we all are. Already looking forward to next year! Check out a video of the retreat HERE
Hawaii
Had an absolutely amazing time in Hawaii last month!
My Parents' Will
Fun fact - my parents were updating their will a few years back, and they asked if there was anything in particular that I wanted earmarked for me. My answer? Their Starbucks mug collection. They’ve collected dozens of these mugs from all around the world, and they represent a lot of fun travels over the years (and they’re a little more wholesome than my shot glass collection). Anytime I visit my parents’ house and have a cup of coffee, I get to choose which mug to drink out of and which trip to reminisce on 🌎
I picked my parents up from the airport a few weeks ago. They were returning home from Italy, and they pulled this Italy mug out of their suitcase to add to the collection (AKA my inheritance). I then presented them with a Hawaii mug from my trip the previous week. Great minds think alike!
