Theory's 5-Year Anniversary!
Earlier this month, we celebrated 5 years since we started Theory. FIVE YEARS. I used to look at other entrepreneurs and think they had it all together. After a lot of learning over the last 60 months, now I know that no one really knows what the heck they're doing. We're all just doing our best to create businesses that we're proud of. And I am so incredibly proud of what we've built at Theory. What started as an idea in 2016 has turned into 8 businesses with 60+ people. And it's because of these people that we're able to continue growing, serving our clients, and making a positive impact in our community. Happy 5 Years Theory Team! The next 5 will be even better :)
October + November Challenges
My challenge for the month of October was to go the whole month without snoozing my alarm clock. I pledged that I would donate $100 to charity for each day that I snoozed. I ended up snoozing 5 times throughout the month, and I donated $500 to a cause that I care about. I've struggled with a snooze button addiction for years, and I definitely still battle with this every day. If you find yourself having the same issue, one huge tip that works for me is plugging my iPhone (alarm clock) on the other side of the room so that I'm forced to get out of bed to turn it off. Obviously this isn't foolproof since I still snoozed 5 times last month, but it helps! Do you have any other tricks that work for you?
For November, I'm experimenting with something that I've always wanted to try: Meditation. A lot of people swear by meditation as part of their daily routine, but I've never really tried it (other than Yoga). I'm doing a guided meditation every day this month. Please let me know if you have any apps, podcasts, YouTube channels, etc that you recommend! Time for some mindfulness!
Community First Village
Last month, I had the chance to visit Texas to check out Community First Village just outside of Austin. This is a 51-acre property that provides permanent long-term housing for 300 people who were previously homeless for an average of 10 years. Community First Village provides more than just housing; they have built a community where people can live with dignity for the rest of their lives. They even provide jobs and income for the people who live there. This includes janitorial services, landscaping, farming, cooking, hospitality, art, cinema, and an entrepreneurship hub. They are helping more and more people every year, and their goal is to build nearly 2,000 homes over the next decade. This is one of the most successful models for getting people out of homelessness that has ever existed, and I’m excited to bring some of these ideas back to the Pacific Northwest. Every person deserves the chance to have a place to call home!
Sunny San Diego
Millers take San Diego! It was so nice having the whole fam bam together in San Diego last month to celebrate Annie and Eric's wedding. Even though we work together, it's not very often that we get to spend quality time together outside of work. We made the most of every moment in sunny San Diego!
*manifesting living here during the winters someday*
Happy Halloween from Theory!
Little bit late, but... Happy Halloween from Vampyra, Wulfred, and all of us at Theory Real Estate!
SALT Event
I had an amazing time last week at SALT - a small business seminar in Downtown Tacoma. Heard from some amazing speakers, met other like-minded entrepreneurs, and walked away with tons of ideas that I’m excited to implement. It’s so refreshing to step away from the day-to-day operations of running a business and give myself space to dream. Burnout is very real, and I’ve felt myself approaching it the last couple months. But this event was exactly what the doctor ordered. Grateful for renewed energy!
